The Maidens

Driving through the Cornish landscape, we found this circle of stones in a cow pasture known as "The Maidens." (Since it was mentioned in our guide book, I'm thinking we weren't the first to find it.) Mostly likely, this was a holy site in "pre-history," like Stonehenge. I've never been to Stonehenge, but I've been to lots of other really old places. Because this site had absolutely no tourist information, and seemed to be little visited, it somehow seemed "closer" to the original people who set them up. The rocks were REALLY stable, and we wondered how much of them were buried beneath. Maybe they are like icebergs, with the majority of them sunk into the earth.
