Insulting Turkishness

Stories like this remind me that the life I live is not normal on this earth. The creative writers and other artists I know struggle with whether or not their work will offend family or with the ethical issues concerning truth and fiction. None of them worry about being arrested for mentioning a very real part of their nation's history. Can you imagine an American novelist being put on trial for depicting the darker parts of American history? We wouldn't have any artists left.

Which is probably why the "top novelists" of many countries are expats living in America.
